This group began because single parents can give each other much needed company and support. Also, this is a great opportunity for our children to make life long friends. The purpose of this group is for single parents in Reston and the surrounding areas to have a local group to socialize with. Any single parent in our area is most welcome to join. Most of the activities will be geared toward elementary and middle school-aged children. Of course parents of babies/teens are always welcome.
This group was started by a concerned parent of a teenager. The purpose of this group is to raise awareness of this growing epidemic and to find answers for parents and teens who may be going through these growing pains. I encourage anyone who has a child to participate in our meetings, so that we can support each other and our chidren who may be silently suffering. This is a pilot for something even bigger, so come out and share your insight and support, so that we can begin to break the cycle …

I am starting this group because I have a 7th grade boy (almost 13) with high functioning Aspergers. He does well in school but has trouble making friends. This group would meet for social interaction--play video games, pizza nights, movie nights, hiking--really anything that gets the kids together to share similar interests in a non-judgemental group. Looking for other parents with middle-school/early teen aspergers who are also having trouble making friends.
I decided to start this group because I could not find one in this area. There are a lot of "single parents of teens" which is "kind of" what I am, I am married but not to my daughters father. I thought a bunch of us getting together (if you have been in the Bowie are for a while, we probably already know each other) for brunch/lunch would give us a "time-out" to talk about our daughters (I only excluded sons because I don't have one and wouldn't even begin to be able to relate) and to maybe mee …
